W Norfolk Befriending

Over 10 years of supporting socially

isolated older people and their carers

in West Norfolk

Do you have good listening skills, a sense of humour, enjoy meeting people and helping them to be as independent as possible?

West Norfolk Befriending works with socially isolated older people living in West Norfolk.  Many of our clients are socially isolated due to a long term physical or sensory disability or because of their role as a carer.

We aim to reduce social isolation by matching isolated older people with a trained and DBS checked volunteer befriender, who will visit them on a regular basis.

We are especially looking for volunteer befrienders in Great Massingham.

The support a befriender gives will depend on the needs of the client. It may be good conversation, the occasional trip out or the opportunity to participate in social activities.

Each matching is considered carefully to ensure that both you and the client get the most out of the experience. You are asked to visit fortnightly, with a matched befriending relationship lasting between 3 months and a year. There are regular reviews of each matching throughout this time, as well as regular support sessions for both befriender and befriended. All mileage expenses are reimbursed.

Our volunteers are very valued members of our team. You will enjoy a full induction, support, training, and professional work experience with a well respected local charity as well as regular opportunities to meet other volunteers.

Befriending is an extremely rewarding experience, as our volunteers tell us; “I enjoy chatting with the clients and seeing the difference it makes.” “I enjoy the funny conversations we have, we always have a giggle.”

You are also welcome to contact us if you think West Norfolk Befriending may be able to help you or someone you know.
